The GSM Association, mobile phone handset manufacturers, network operators and mobile value added service suppliers are all racing to make NFC enabled phones and their attendant services a reality in 2008. Organisations like TfL are trialling NFC enabled phones as replacements for Oyster cards; while a number of value added suppliers are looking at the use of the mobile phone as both a mobile terminal and a card replacement. Live applications are expected to appear before the end of 2008.
